How Should I Choose a Roofing Contractor?
You should first ask friends and family for referrals or recommendations. You can then check the online ratings and reviews for these contractors online and on apps like Yelp. You can also check your local Registrar of Contractors and the Better Business Bureau to see if there have been any complaints filed against any of the contractors or companies. Next, check for GAF certification on the GAF website. Finally, ask to see a portfolio of completed projects and find out what their experience, education, insurance, and licenses are.
What Are the Benefits of a GAF Certified Roofing Contractor?
GAF Certified roofing contractors are the best in the business. They are able to offer superior protection through their GAF Lifetime Roofing System and also have the ability to offer GAF warranties. When afforded GAF Certification, the contractor has been proven to be:
- Insured and licensed – must carry at least $1 million in liability insurance as well as worker’s compensation insurance. Must be properly licensed to be a contractor in the State where they work.
- Reputable and trustworthy – must have a good reputation within the community and with their customers. Must have good customer reviews and testimonials, and a good rating with the Better Business Bureau. Must have a good credit rating.

Which GAF Warranty Should I Choose?
Your GAF Certified contractor should be able to help you determine which GAF warranty you should choose. GAF also has a helpful chart on their website that outlines the differences between their warranties.
Does My GAF Warranty Need to Be Registered?
The GAF Shingle & Accessory Limited Warranty and GAF Roofing System Limited Warranty do not require registration. You just need to keep your proof of purchase, like a copy of your contract with your installer, or an invoice from a roofing supply store or retail store where you purchased the GAF products. This proof of purchase may need to be provided to GAF if you experience any issues with your GAF products during the warranty term and need to file a claim. Enhanced warranties do require registration within 45 days of installation, but your GAF Certified contractor will register your warranty for you.
What Is NOT Covered by My GAF Warranty?
Each GAF warranty type offers different levels of coverage. You can check the specific coverage levels using this comparison chart on GAF’s website. Typically, what is not covered is conditions resulting from anything other than an inherent manufacturing defect in the GAF Products. This includes failure to install adequate ventilation.
How Do I Transfer My GAF Warranty?
You can transfer your GAF Warranty by sending an email to [email protected] that includes your name, address, and date you purchased the property. GAF might request proof of the date the property was sold or transferred to you.
